How MT Sound Quest works
The training screens, the writing tools, the guided lessons and the settings behind each one. This section takes them in turn, with a screenshot of every screen and a plain description of what each control does.
Nothing here needs to be read in order. If you already know which screen you are looking at, go straight to it.
First steps
The home screen, how a session works, and how to plug a real piano into the app.
TrainingSight reading
Name the note, play it. No rhythm, no tempo — position only.
TrainingRhythm
Two drums, a moving playhead, and the figures you choose to practise.
TrainingSheet music reading
The two skills at once: the right note at the right moment, in time.
LearningCourses Alpha
Guided lessons that start at the first note, and the drills attached to each one.
LearningExercises
A set drawn fresh every day, and a list to work through.
LearningAdventure Alpha
Duels against an opponent, and the cards you can play during one.
WritingRhythm maker
Write out the rhythm of a piece, then send it to the Rhythm screen to drill it.
WritingScore maker
Notes and rhythm together, on a grand staff, for both hands.
ProgressPoints and the shop
Where your points come from, and what there is to spend them on.
The restTools, reports and settings
Metronome, note detector, Find the tempo, Reports, Free Play, and the app settings.
SupportReport a problem
Crashes, freezes, or anything behaving oddly. The page assembles the report; you send it.
If you are looking for one thing
- Starting from nothing at all — the courses begin at the first note.
- Connecting a digital piano — plug it in over USB, the app names it at the bottom of the home screen.
- Changing which notes come up — sight reading options: clef, accidentals, one note or four.
- Practising one rhythmic figure only — pick it in the figures grid and clear the rest.
- Something to practise without having to choose it — today’s exercises, redrawn every night.
- Naming a note you can hear but not read — the note detector.
- Playing a piece you already have on paper — write it in the score maker, then send it to Sheet music reading.
- Practising one hand at a time — Rhythm and Sheet music reading both let you drill a single hand.
- Looping four bars until they are clean — set A and B and turn on the loop.
- Where your points come from — the shop page lists them.
- Changing the language — Settings, or Automatic to follow your device.
- Taps being missed in Rhythm — lower the frame rate; on some phones that is exactly the fix.
- Turning the screen upside down — when the cable comes out of the wrong side.
Something not working?
Crashes, freezes, anything behaving oddly: report a problem. Say what you were doing when it happened — that is what makes a bug reproducible, and reproducible bugs are the ones that get fixed.
